La Solidaire du Chocolat [18 Ottobre 2009]

"Solidaire du Chocolat-Mècènes-Vos retours"
Gwen, Mr.Grimont,Mr. Duval,
thank you for the opportunity, sorry for the delay, just a few preliminary considerations that I wish to share with you:

We,from Adriatech, live along the Adriatic Sea; our city Pescara/Italy is just across the Croatian Islands, the first of these beautiful islands not more than 80 nm away from us. Sailing is our source of inspiration, a lifestyle that we traditionally celebrate, that we cherish, and we hand down over the years from father to son. Not comparable to your sailing scenario nor experience, but we know what sailing means, we are aware of what it involves and demands, hence the yearning to express our admiration, indiscriminately, towards all the skippers of La Solidaire du Chocolat 2009, to those who are still stoically racing and, in equal measure, to those who stoically were compelled to abandon the race. These men have made this event possible giving us, the sponsors, the opportunity to share such a unique emotion and in a certain way allowing us to be protagonists of it all.
A special thank you, in primis, to Miranda Merron, a great example for us women, to look up to. A grateful thank you to each and every skipper for their tough determination.
To our boat "Adriatech" and to our skippers- Davide Consorte, at his first transoceanic race, and Arnaud Aubry, our friend, our highest consideration and gratitude for representing our company so well.

In my capacity of Managing Director of Adriatech-Italy, my decision to accept the challenge of being sponsor for La Solidaire du Chocolat event was based mainly on the achievement of a few goals, some short-term, others long, all purely marketing-wise.
I must admit that the event turned out to be a great success beyond all expectations.
The "twinning issue" with the French schools has proven a rewarding experience; our special thanks to the College of Condorcet, teachers and children, for having accepted to relate with an Italian boat, an Italian skipper. It has been my personal pleasure and honor to talk to them. The children, I am sure, have received knowledgeable information and inspiration from this event, more than any other experience I can now think of. The educational pursuit in this instance is significant and of great impact on boys and girls so avid for adventure and positive motivation. A similar opportunity extended to Italian schools is a goal that I personally look forward to.

The events at St.Nazaire and Nantes were quite a sight, great entertainment, well-organized. Regretfully I could not attend personally but we had several people from Pescara attending the celebrations in St.Nazaire, and each and every one of them brought home a feeling of greatness, success and in a certain sense of belonging to a special event. It was impossible for us to enjoy the entertainments to full extent-about 10 days of celebration. A shorter term event, not so long-drawn-out, would have equally fulfilled our personal expectations.
The people of the Organization that we related with were all very friendly, professional, available in every need we had. The entire workshop, I feel, performed well, as far as we can tell.
Marginalization was slightly perceived in our case, probably due to the fact that we are Italians, not French, and moreover not famed, well-known. I felt majorly the lack of mass-media attention during the events in Nantes and St.Nazaire and during the race itself, towards our participation, our boat, our skippers. We feel equal attention should be given to all, in the same measure, avoiding partiality, sentimentalism and patriotic feelings, regardless of fame, nationality or other distinguishing issues: same amout of pictures, same interview opportunities, same amount of daily reports. Probably, I would say that this is the most eloquent flaw , accept it as a personal consideration.
I would suggest that for future events your communication staff relate and establish agreements with Italian daily newspapers and magazines to ensure that also in Italy major highlight be given to the event, thus assuring that sponsors, associations and skippers receive major, enduring attention.. We are in Europe now, boundaries should not exist, specially when it comes to sports and solidarity.

Apparently, the race did not turn to be an easy one: I would be grateful in having the opportunity to read in detail about the personal considerations of each skipper concerning the race itself and their personal daily course of events, after the race, of course.

I wish to take this opportunity to express my company's appreciation and gratitude to the organizers of La Solidaire du Chocolat for making this first event a great success and giving us the possibility to live such an exceptional experience.

Sincerely,
Tiziana Pennese
